Former UFC stars Luke Rockhold and Darren Till stepped inside the ring at Misfits Boxing 22 to crown the first-ever bridgerweight champion.
Emanating from the AO Arena in Manchester, Rockhold straps on the eight-ounce gloves for a clash with Till, who goes into the contest riding a three-fight win streak, including back-to-back knockouts against Mohammad Mutie and Anthony Taylor. In his most recent outing, Till landed a unanimous decision victory over Darren Stewart in May.
Round 1
Rockhold gets on his front foot and starts pumping the jab. Rockhold connects with a right jab, but Till counters with a left that catches Rockhold on the chin. Rockhold lands with a left of his own. Rockhold comes right back with another left that sends Till stumbling back. Till is struggling to close the distance, but lands with a counter right in the final minute of the round. Rockhold continues throwing the jab as Till attempts to fire an uppercut up the middle.
With only seconds left in the stanza, Till unleashes a massive left hand that sends Rockhold crashing to the canvas. Rockhold gets to his feet before the 10-count, and the round ends before Till can try to capitalize. Rockhold appears to be on wobbly legs as he stumbles back to his corner between rounds.
Round 2
Till gets right back to work, looking to land a fight-ending shot. Till throws a couple of lefts, but he can’t connect clean. With just over a minute left in the round, Till lands another booming left that appears to knock down Rockhold. The referee moved in like he was going to initiate a standing eight-count, but ultimately backed off as Till continued his barrage of strikes. The referee separated the fighters after a few moments, but no knockdown was awarded to Till.
Till continued to push the pace as the second stanza came to a close.
Round 3
Till continues to fire on all cylinders, doubling up on the jab and landing with another left. Backing Rockhold into the corner, Till uncorks a combination that renders Rockhold unconscious. For some reason, the referee is initiating a 10-count despite Rockhold being completely out on the mat. Regardless, Till made good on his promise to KO Rockhold.
