Terence Crawford Shocks Canelo Álvarez To Capture Undisputed Super Middleweight Title Canelo Vs Crawford Results Highlights

In one of the most anticipated boxing matches in recent memory, undisputed super middleweight world champion Canelo Álvarez returned to the ring on Saturday night for a long-awaited showdown with undefeated sensation Terence Crawford. 

Round 1

Crawford opens the fight with a jab to the body. Two minutes in, Crawford has thrown the only blows for the fight, all jabs. Álvarez finally throws a right, followed by a body shot that connects. Crawford fires back with a clean two-punch combo. Álvarez offers a left, then a right. Crawford attempts to circle away, but eats a left to the body. Neither fighter throws another blow before the end of the round. 

Round 2

Álvarez lands a right and tries to follow it up with a right, but Crawford evades. Crawford fires back with a right of his own. Álvarez tries to respond, but Crawford gets his head off the centerline just in time. Álvarez lands to the body twice. Crawford throws a combination near the ropes. Álvarez continues to work the body as Crawford throws a double jab. Álvarez attempts to fire back with a big right hand, but Crawford is just out of range. 

Round 3

Álvarez lands a right hand to open the third. Crawford throws a combination as Álvarez stalks forward. Crawford circles away, and Álvarez attempts to catch him with a right. Álvarez lands a left to the body. Alvarez throws a left hook as we approach one minute left in the round. Álvarez touches the body, and Crawford responds with a combination up top. Álvarez lands another heavy shot to the body moments before the bell sounds. 

Round 4

A heavy exchange opens the fourth, and Crawford is starting to let his hands go, throwing a hard combination that appears to have bothered Álvarez. In response, Álvarez throws his first big shot upstairs, partially landing a right on his opponent. Álvarez goes back to the body before firing another blow up top, landing on Crawford’s chin. Álvarez appears to be getting into a bit of a groove with a minute left in the round. Crawford lands a left hook, followed by a stiff jab. 

Crawford is using side-to-side movement, but that doesn’t stop Álvarez from sticking him with a straight right just before the bell. 

Round 5

Crawford doubles up on the jab and continues to use his jab to keep Álvarez at bay. Álvarez is mixing up his striking, alternating shots to the head and body, but Crawford catches him with a counter jab near the ropes. Álvarez throws to the body and connects. Álvarez rips to the body once again, but Crawford blocks the follow-up punch up top. Crawford tries to land a late right, but he’s just out of range. Álvarez fails to connect on the counter, and the fighters head to their corners as we near the halfway point of the fight. 

Round 6

After seemingly giving up the last round, Crawford comes out swinging big immediately. Crawford lands a booming left hand, followed by an uppercut that appears to have caused some swelling near Álvarez’s right eye. Crawford is starting to showboat a bit, cracking a smile as Álvarez pursues. Both fighters throw a left, but it’s Crawford’s follow-up right hand that catches Álvarez. They exchange strikes in the final seconds, but neither lands clean. 

Round 7

Crawford is the more active fighter in the first 30 seconds, pumping the jab and going toe-to-toe with the more powerful Álvarez. Crawford is doing a good job of keeping his guard up and absorbing Álvarez’s shots. Álvarez goes back to the body. Álvarez backs Crawford to the corner, but he fails to capitalize as Crawford punches his way out and back to the center of the ring. Crawford works off his jab late before heading back to his corner looking like a fighter who’s up on the scorecards. 

Round 8

Crawford digs to the body as Álvarez tries to close the distance. Álvarez returns the favor, landing a right to the body. Álvarez continues to target the body before offering a three-piece combo up top. Álvarez is having a much better round, and he adds to it with a big right hand. Crawford seems unconcerned with Álvarez’s uptick in offense and closes the round with a little bit of trash-talking aimed at the defending champion. 

Round 9

Things are heating up in the ninth with Crawford coming out swinging with reckless abandon. Álvarez is more than game, firing back in the phone booth. Near the ropes, Álvarez rips to the body, but he appears to have busted open Crawford in the process with an accidental headbutt. The referee pauses the fight, but Crawford is good to go after just a few moments. The action picks right back up, with both fighters looking for a fight-ending shot. 

Álvarez is swinging big with the right hand and connects with a solid left inside. The furious pace starts to slow in the final minute of the round. Álvarez stalks as ‘Bud’ dances around the ring, eliciting boos from the live crowd. Álvarez lands a right hand. Crawford responds with a trio of jabs to the head, followed by one to the body before the bell. 

Round 10

Crawford gets off a good three-punch sequence, but Álvarez lands a good left hand that has Crawford backing up. Crawford blocks a right-hand offering from Álvarez. Crawford circles the ring, but Álvarez backs him into a corner, landing a single shot to the body. Álvarez catches Crawford against the ropes and lands some dirty boxing shots. It was a much slower round compared to the previous one, but Álvarez appeared to get the better of his opponent during the stanza. 

Round 11

Álvarez starts the round with a beautiful body shot. Crawford fires back with an uppercut. Crawford absorbs a body shot and responds with an uppercut that wobbles Álvarez. Crawford follows up with a short left hand as Álvarez tries to answer with bombs. Crawford is really feeling himself in the penultimate round as Álvarez desperately tries to cut off the ring and corner Crawford. 

Álvarez fires to the body, but eats a combination up top. Álvarez tries to respond with a late left hand, but ‘Bud’ blocks it as the round ends. 

Round 12

Álvarez is pushing the pace in the final round, pressuring Crawford against the ropes. Álvarez throws a right, but eats a perfectly timed counter left from Crawford that gets a reaction from the crowd. Álvarez is throwing heavy shots, but he can’t find the mark. That gives Crawford reason to smile as we reach 60 seconds left in the fight. Álvarez appears to be frustrated, practically walking away from his opponent. Crawford throws a combination late and lands a right. Álvarez responds with a left before the bell, and both fighters raise their hands, believing they’ve done enough to walk away with the win. 

Official Result: Terence Crawford def. Canelo Alvarez via unanimous decision (116-112, 115-113, 115-113) to win the undisputed super middleweight world championship.
