Professional Fighters League brought a major event to Madrid, highlighting the first large-scale mixed martial arts show in the country with key title fights and important matchups.
The main event featured Costello van Steenis defending his middleweight championship against Fabian Edwards. This rematch added extra weight to the evening as both fighters had previous history.
Fast start with striking and grappling
In round one, van Steenis landed a strong right hand and moved into the clinch. Edwards countered with an elbow during the separation. Both fighters mixed striking and takedowns, with van Steenis finishing the round in a dominant top position after nearly catching Edwards in a guillotine.
Second round sees grappling exchanges
Round two saw Edwards trying to wrestle and improve position. Van Steenis was briefly off balance after a kick, allowing Edwards to move to his back. The referee issued warnings for glove grabs while both fighters traded punches and elbows. Van Steenis attempted a Peruvian neck tie but Edwards connected with strikes as the round ended.
Brutal elbows end fight in final round
The third round began with Edwards going for takedowns. Van Steenis defended and used close-range elbows, forcing the referee to stop the fight. This secured another win for van Steenis over Edwards and kept his PFL middleweight title.
