Aung La N Sang Stops Brandon Vera

On-trend for the current climate in MMA, ONE: Century put on an MMA card for the ages. The two-part card featured stars such as Demetrious Johnson, Angela Lee, and Yushin Okami. Additionally, ONE: Century featured light heavyweight champion Aung La N Sang take on the heavyweight titleholder Brandon Vera. N Sang stopped Vera 3 minutes into the second round to retain his light heavyweight title that was on the line.

Round 1

Sang was the aggressor for the majority of the entire fight, pushing the pace and bringing the action. Although both men started out slowly in the initial round, Aung’s fearless approach set the tone for the rest of the fight. Once the pair settled in their comfort zones, power shots were exchanged for the duration of the rest of the entire fight.

Round 2

During the second round, Vera began to find his rhythm. Even with a vicious onslaught of Thai clinch attacks including wicked knees, Aung powered through the charge to deliver an onrush of his own.

The Finish

As the men exchanged back and forth at an extremely high pace, Vera found himself on the wrong end of a spinning back elbow. Which led to a strong right hand that sent Vera straight to the canvas. As a finisher, N Sang immediately began attacking Vera will double-digit unanswered punches to cap off his historic night during his first light heavyweight title defense.

A Historic Victory

With the win, Aung La N Sang currently sits on a 7 fight win streak in ONE. His only loss in his ONE 12 fight career came against Vitaly Bigdash via unanimous decision during the ONE: Championship Quest for Power card. However, Aung rematched Bigdash 5 months later and won the bout, avenging his loss.

ONE has a star on their hands in Aung La N Sang. Hopefully, his presence in combination with ONE’s North American audience efforts, will be enough to take the promotion to the next level.
