Former UFC Champion Demetrious Johnson Emerge Victorious In His ONE Championship Debut, While Alvarez Lost Via KO

Former UFC flyweight king Demeterious Johnson and former UFC and Bellator Lightweight ruler, Eddie Alvarez made their ONE championship: A New Era debut last night (Sun, March 31, 2019) from Tokyo Japan.

‘Mighty Mouse’ took on Yuya Wakamatsu in a ONE’s Flyweight World Grand Prix and finished the fight in the second round. The opening frame was pretty aggressive, shortly after Johnson scored a takedown and tightly secured a choke from the mount position but “Little Piranha” successfully fended it. By the second frame, Johnson used different tactics landed a few knees to the already downed Wakamatsu before squeezed on a guillotine choke that led the 24-year old fighter forced to tap out.

”I love the knees to the grounded opponent,” Johnson said after the win. “I just kept on reaching, and I got a real nice guillotine. He went for the shot, I put my hips in, and he was hanging on to my leg, and I gave it more of a torque to get that finish. I don’t know if he went out or not because he tapped and then he woke up and was like ‘what happened, what happened?’ Can’t wait for the next round.”

Timofey Nastyukhin earned arguably the biggest win of his career after taking out Eddie Alvarez with punches in the first round of ONE’s Lightweight World Grand Prix. Alvarez couldn’t be able to land much aggressive shot but did hurl one right hand on his foe though it didn’t do a much to knock him out. Eddie was pretty content in his standing game and suddenly clipped with a left hook that almost stunned him.

Timofey went into a killer mode and sent “The Underground King” to the fence, Eddie defends the flurry. Nastyukhin pouched in and dropped Alvarez to the mat and unleashed a barrage of strikes that led the referee to step in and wave off the punishment.

The setback is Eddie’s consecutive knockout loss. Previously he dropped to Dustin Poirier under UFC banner. Sad ending for Alvarez. Timofey advanced to the next level of ONE’s Lightweight World Grand Prix.
