  • Christial Lee finished Kiamrian Abbasov to become the new ONE welterweight champion
  • “The Warrior” is now a two-division champ, having reclaimed his lightweight title in August

Still hot from his TKO victory against Rae Yoon Ok in August, Christian Lee put his name in ONE Championship’s history books after scoring another TKO win over Kiamrian Abbasov at ONE on Prime Video 4 on Friday in Singapore.

A stunning comeback

Reigning champion Abbasov failed to make weight for his welterweight championship bout against Lee and was stripped off. The fight was turned into a catchweight of 186.25 pounds, which was exactly Abbasov’s weight when he hit the scale on Thursday. Still, only Lee was declared eligible to compete for the welterweight strap and he didn’t fail to deliver.

The heavier Abbasov came in blazing in the early going, landing a flurry of devastating punches on Lee. It soon took toll on the lightweight champ, who ended up getting knocked down in Round 1 after taking a short left hook from Abbasov.

However, fans in attendance at the Singapore Indoor Stadium were stunned when Lee recovered and eventually bounced back. Lee fought his heart out and managed to give Abbasov a hard time in succeeding rounds. Due to exhaustion, “The Warrior” wasn’t able to land some powerful punches on Abbasov but his nasty elbows were enough to break his opponent.

Lee landed over a dozen of elbows on Abbasov, who wound up hitting the canvas. Lee then finished the job and was declared winner via TKO.

Double champion

The victory over Abbasov saw Lee improving his record to 17-4-0 and becoming a two-division ONE champion. He had just reclaimed his lightweight title and it is yet to be determined which strap is he going to defend next. Let’s wait and see.
