Replay: BJJ wizard Garry Tonon moves to 3-0 with three stoppages

Garry Tonon MMA

We forget that Garry Tonon is still only 27 years old because it feels like he’s been tooling people in BJJ for years. Today (Nov. 9) at ONE Championship, Garry had his third MMA fight and it looks like he’s improving.

Through three pro MMA fights Tonon has stopped all three opponents inside of three rounds: two submissions and one TKO. Matched up with 4-3 lightweight Sung Jong Lee, Garry took care of business. What impresses most about Tonon’s transition to the cage is not how good his grappling carries over but how good his stand-up and athleticism has looked thus far.

With each passing fight, Garry is showing visible improvements with his striking skills. Like there may come a day when Tonon uses his black belt to keep the fight standing as he picks apart his opponent with strikes. Considering how late in life Garry caught the MMA bug, this is a mind blowing thought.

Check out the finishing sequence below from today’s ONE Championship: Heart of the Lion event in Singapore.

Garry Tonon scored himself three fights for ONE in 2018 and if he can keep the same pace in 2019, watch out now. As long as he’s not rushed into a fight with a MMA fighter with a huge experience edge, Garry should be looking at a 6-0 mark this time next year. ONE Championship may have landed themselves another prime prospect they eventually can build around.

Garry Tonon’s jiu-jitsu witchcraft speaks for itself and it will be interesting to track how far he wants to take his MMA career in the coming years.
