- Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk have reportedly agreed to rematch at UFC 275
- Both former champions are looking to end their skid
Two years ago, two of the best women’s strawweight fighters in the world Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk squared off inside the octagon at UFC 248. After five rounds of trading blows, the judges gave the nod to Zhang, who was declared winner via split decision.
Now, the pair is ready to give it another go as they verbally agreed to have a rematch at UFC 275 on June 11 in Singapore, per ESPN.
An epic rematch is brewing
Zhang and Jedrzejczyk fought their hearts out at UFC 248 in an epic match that is now considered one of the greatest fights in the history of MMA. Both former UFC strawweight champions went back-and-forth for 25 minutes that saw Jedrzejczyk incurring hematoma, which caused her head to be terribly swollen.
With a rematch taking a step closer to reality, fans can expect another action-packed fight courtesy of Zhang and Jedrzejczyk.
A badly-needed win
As things stand, Zhang and Jedrzejczyk appeared to have a few notable things in common leading up to their rematch. Apart from dominating the UFC women’s strawweight division for a time, both elite 115-pounders badly needed to bounce back to their winning ways.
Atop that, both Zhang and Jedrzejczyk also fell short-handed against reigning strawweight champion Rose “Thug” Namajunas.
It can be recalled that the Chinese MMA star had a tremendous run, having gone unbeaten in 21 consecutive fights prior to her back-to-back losses to Namajunas at UFC 268.
Former longtime strawweight champion Jedrzejczyk, on the other hand, is coming in as the fighter who still has the most title defenses in the division with five. The Polish MMA star lost the title to Namajunas in 2017 and has gone 2-2 since then.
Jedrzejczyk has not tasted a victory since 2019 and will be looking to avenge her most recent lost to Zhang.
