It was only three years ago when MiddleEasy made the case that women should fight in five minute rounds. Since that article, the rules have changed, which only denotes something that we’ve previously suggested in our MiddleEasy stickers. With the purchase of Strikeforce by ZUFFA and Cyborg’s positive test of a banned substance, we knew the 145 lb division in Strikeforce was in limbo. Not the kind of limbo that your uncle used to play when you were a kid to show that he was still a spry young man. We’re talking about the place in Dante’s Inferno, the first circle of hell where unbaptized and the virtuous pagans reside. Perhaps not that deep, but now that the featherweight division has been dissolved, the probability of Strikeforce adding a new flyweight women’s division seems extraordinarily low. That’s too bad. I guess Amanda Cooper will have to continue to knock out other chicks in local MMA events like she did this weekend at WXC 35 in Michigan. Keep in mind, Cooper is a 2010 and 2011 Golden Glove champion and even moved up in weight to 135 lbs to grab the CCCFC championship strap. Now she has claimed another belt to her collection against Tori Music, and she did it in eight seconds. Props to MarQ for the find.
