UFC Seriously Thinks About Yoel Romero Vs Alexander Gustafsson For Light Heavyweight Title Fight At UFC 230
UFC 230 should be headlined by Tyron Woodley Vs Colby Covington. Yet, Tyron had to withdraw due to hand surgery, and the event still hasn’t got the main event set. UFC has come to a stunning idea to match two fighters that have negative score in title fights – Yoel Romero and Alexander Gustafsson.
Alexander Gustafsson (18-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) lost both of his UFC Light Heavyweight title shots via unanimous decision. In the first place, he fought Jon Jones at UFC 165 on September 21, 2013. Gustafsson shocked everybody since he fought like a superstar. He even landed a spinning back elbow on Jon Jones and took him down. In his second title shot, he was defeated by Daniel Cormier at UFC 192 on October 3, 2015.
Yoel Romero (13-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) is probably the biggest tragedian in the history of UFC title shots. He was stopped by Robert Whittaker at UFC 213 on July 8, 2017, via unanimous decision.
But he defeated Luke Rockhold in the UFC Interim Middleweight title fight at UFC 221 on February 11, 2018, via KO. Yet, he weighed 187.7 lbs and missed the scale. Despite he won the match, he was claimed ineligible for the title shot! He repeated the same thing in the next title fight versus Robert Whittaker at UFC 225 on June 9, 2018. His weight was 185.2 lbs! This time, Romero was defeated via split decision!
Dana White is not friendly towards Jon Jones return on November 3, 2018. Ariel Helwani from ESPN claims UFC is desperate for UFC 230 PPV (pay-per-view) main event. So the clash of Yoel Romero and Alexander Gustafsson at the 205-pound division sounds like a realistic possibility. According to Helwani, this showdown is not official yet.
“UFC seriously discussing booking Yoel Romero vs. Alexander Gustafsson at light heavyweight for the MSG card on 11/3, according to multiple sources,” Helwani said. “The fight isn’t finalized, though. A title would be on the line with both interim and official options discussed.”

The status of the UFC Light Heavyweight division is unknown at the moment. Daniel Cormier has reached a verbal agreement with Brock Lesnar. He will defend his UFC Heavyweight belt at the beginning of 2019. But only if Brock Lesnar passes USADA testing pool.
Yoel Romero got tired of unsuccessful weight cuts in June 2018. He was saying that he had plans to go one division up. He was linked with Alexander Gustafsson at that time. Unfortunately, their match never happened since Yoel Romero was hurt badly after UFC 225 showdown. He was even claimed medically unfit to fight Paulo Costa later!
What are your thoughts on Yoel Romero Vs Alexander Gustafsson Light Heavyweight title shot? At least Yoel Romero won’t miss the scale. Do you think Paulo Costa will be furious? Who is your favorite if these two meet? Both of them are warriors – Soldier Of God Vs Viking!
