Yoel Romero is not the first UFC fighter who participates in this reality show. The Welterweight competitor Jorge Masvidal took part in the last season.
“The Soldier of God” missed the scale at UFC 221, and despite defeating Luke Rockhold, he was claimed ineligible for the champ.
At UFC 225, Romero had 0.2 extra pounds. He lost to Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker via split decision. But even if Yoel was the winner, he wouldn’t get the belt due to a weigh-in miss.
Romero was set to meet Paulo Costa at UFC 230. The Cuban was claimed medically unfit because he could not recover from broken orbital bone he sustained in the clash against Whittaker. The new meeting was in works for January, but then the Brazilian suffered a minor injury.
Finally, the match between Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa is rescheduled for the main event of UFC Miami, which takes place in April 2019.
