Yoel Romero Won’t Fight Paulo Costa, Meets Jacare Souza In The Main Event Of UFC On ESPN 3!

The match between two insanely ripped 185-pounders, Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa, was targeted for the last week of April.

Yet, according to Brett Okamoto from ESPN, the promotion took a U-turn late Thursday, booking the rematch between “Soldier of God” and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza for the main event of UFC on ESPN 3!

Yoel Romero already met Jacare Souza at UFC 194, on December 12, 2015. The greatest Cuban mixed martial artist won via close split decision (29-27, 28-29, 29-28).

Since then, Yoel Romero (13-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) had ups and downs, 2 wins and 2 losses. The Cuban KOd Chris Weidman via flying knee at UFC 205. Later he was defeated to Robert Whittaker at UFC 213 via unanimous decision.

Romero rebounded back with a fantastic KO win over Luke Rockhold at UFC 221, on February 11, 2018. In his last match, “Soldier of God” met Robert Whittaker at UFC 225, on June 9, 2018, where he was defeated via split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47).

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (26-6, 1 NC, 9-3 UFC) stepped inside the Octagon six times after his loss to Romero and set the score of 4-2.

The former Strikeforce Middleweight champ earned back-to-back wins over Vitor Belfort at UFC 194 and Tim Boetsch at UFC 198. Yet, he was put to sleep via head kick by Robert Whittaker at UFC 213.

Ronaldo then KOd Derek Brunson at UFC on Fox 27, but Kelvin Gastelum outpointed him at UFC 224. In his last bout, the Brazilian put the former 185-pound champ Chris Weidman to sleep at UFC 230, on November 3, 2018.
