Woodley Vs. Covington Can Coach The Next TUF 27

The rivalry between welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and top-ranked Colby Covington is obvious. Covington has repeatedly defied the Woodley and called him a hypocrite and someone who “does not dare” take a match against him. But now the match can actually be the truth, as discussions about both athletes and a coaching role for the popular series “The Ultimate Fighter” will be held. MMA reporter Farah Hannoun reports on the incident.

As confirmed by Woodley earlier yesterday, he is, in fact, planning to undergo shoulder surgery.

Former American Top Team(ATT) teammates, Woodley and Colby Covington have since become not so friendly towards one another. Woodley has been asked about Covington multiple times during his rise, about his antics and skills(this quote being from an interview on the MMA Hour last month).

“Fans want to see blood and knockouts. They don’t want to see some guy just take somebody down over and over again. So I just find it really corny. And yeah, it’s worked, he talked himself into the Demian Maia and Dong Hyun Kim (fights), two guys I (beat). I wrote the book on Maia; he went out and checked it out at the library. Checked the book out, read it, and went out there and got bloodied by a jiu-jitsu guy. Now he thinks he’s going to fight for a title. Sit down somewhere. He’s embarrassing himself.”

Woodley defended his welterweight belt for the second time when he was arrested against Demian Maia during UFC 214. He won the match by unanimous decision.

Covington, on the other hand, has stated numerous times how Woodley is scared of him after he “whooped him” in training.

Covington currently riding five straight win streak where he was last placed and won against Demian Maia by unanimous decision. Covington is ranked number # 3 in the welterweight division.

UFC hosted tryouts for the 27th season of The Ultimate Fighter this week, Dec. 13, at the Palace Station Hotel in Las Vegas, Titled The Ultimate Fighter: Battle of the Undefeated, the season will only feature male MMA prospects in the featherweight, lightweight and welterweights.

Many of the fighters already reported to be on the show are members of American Top Team which makes this possibility of having these two fighters as the coaches that much more interesting. TUF 27 will begin filming next month in January.
