Robert Whittaker Would Like To Square Off Against Israel Adesanya On Khabib Nurmagomedov Vs Dustin Poirier Fight Card
Robert Whittaker was set to defend his belt against Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of UFC 234 but he was forced to pull out less than 24 hours before the fight. “The Reaper” underwent surgery due to hernia issues.
But it seems the Australian Octagon warrior has a very interesting idea. In the latest Instagram post, Robert Whittaker suggested his title bout versus the undefeated Nigerian-born New Zealander Israel Adesanya should happen on same blockbuster UFC card as the 155-pound title match between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier. “The Reaper” teases the location too–his hometown of Sydney, Australia.
Great idea @royallmmanews 👊🏽Stadium in Sydney! 🇦🇺🇳🇿v 🇳🇬 and 🦅v💎 UFC___ #september #bookitdana #letsgo @mickmaynard2 Who’s in??
Robert Whittaker has never been a trash talker, but he is pretty much vocal lately. In a recent interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, “The Reaper” said Adesanya “exposed a lot of weaknesses in the bout against Gastelum” and called him “very hittable”. Whittaker believes Israel should be “very worried” heading into UFC Middleweight title unification bout.
On the other hand, Khabib Nurmagomedov is still under suspension because of his role in infamous UFC 229 post-fight brawl. The undefeated Dagestani was slapped with a nine-month suspension and $500,000 fine.
The 155-pound champ was offered to slip away with a reduced penalty, but he was not interested in an anti-bullying PSA. Khabib nixed the proposal and criticized the state of Nevada.
There are rumors of the potential September bout between Khabib and Poirier. “The Diamond” recently posted a cryptic tweet.
Gonna be a September to remember!#undisputed

Do you support Robert Whittaker? If UFC allows Whitaker Vs Adesanya and Khabib Vs Poirier on the same fight card, it would be one hell of an event!
