Welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio Calls Out Donald Cerrone For UFC Chile

This past weekend, Donald Cerrone scores a first-round TKO finish of Yancy Medeiros at UFC Fight Night 126 on (Feb. 18, 2018). After UFC Austin win, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone expressed his interest to go back to lightweight, but a top-10 ranked welterweight contender Santiago Ponzinibbio calls out Cerrone recently.

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Santiago told “Cowboy” is one of his top select as his next opponent, with Stephen Thompson being the first. Ponzinibbio who’s riding a six-fight winning streak and hoping to headline the UFC’s upcoming event in Chile. But since “Wonderboy” is healing up, Santiago would take a shot at skilled and talented fighters on the UFC roster.

“The best options are Thompson and Cerrone because of their fighting styles,” Ponzinibbio said. “It would be a great show against either one of them, but Thompson is saying that he’s injured. After such a beautiful performance last night, Cerrone would be a great option,” added the Argentinean.

“I was watching Cerrone’s fight last night and he was really impressive,” the Argentinian said. “It was a good knockout. He has a lot of knockouts, and I think it would be a fun fight for the fans. Cerrone and I could do a fight that will go down in history, in an event that will already make history in Chile.”

The promotion is expected to host its first event in Santiago, Chile, which is expected to take place on May 19, and Santiago Ponzinibbio is hoping to take part in that event. Moreover, UFC has yet to officially announce that event.

“I was watching Cerrone’s fight last night and he was really impressive,” he said. “It was a good knockout. He has a lot of knockouts, and I think it would be a fun fight for the fans. Cerrone and I could do a fight that will go down in history, in an event that will already make history in Chile.”

Santiago Ponzinibbio last fought against Mike Perry and won the bout via decision at UFC on FOX 26 last December. Despite Donald Cerrone’s plan of dropping down a division, he also went on record saying he will take on anyone UFC wants him to, regardless of class.
