The First Chinese UFC Champ Weili Zhang Doesn’t Want To Fight The Former Strawweight Queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Joanna Jedrzejczyk dominated Michelle Waterson and scored a unanimous decision win after five rounds of war at UFC On ESPN+ 19 last weekend.

Joanna increased the chances for a title shot, but the current 115-pound division queen Weili Zhang isn’t too keen on fighting the Pole. In her interview with TMZ, the Chinese champ openly said she was not interested in fighting “JJ”. Zhang wants to share the Octagon with the best fighters in the division.

“Joanna – I don’t think she’s the fighter she used to be,” Zhang said. “She’s nothing conditional to what she used to be. I’m not very interested. I want to fight the best. I think maybe Rose (Namajunas) is a good choice.”

Weili Zhang became the division champ in the main event of UFC Fight Night 157. She dethroned Jessica Andrade with a shocking first-round stoppage. If Weili could choose her next opponent, she’d go ten pounds north to meet the dangerous striker and 125-pound champion Valentina Shevchenko.

“If I had the chance, I’d like to move up to the weight class and fight the best, and right now Valentina is one of the best.”

What are your thoughts on Weili Zhang’s statement? Would you like to watch Zhang vs Jedrzejczyk?
