One of the biggest issues in MMA is incompetent referees; their job is to protect the fighters not to make things worse.
As fighters are always advised to tap when they find themselves entangled in a submission, basically they count on a referee to save them if things go wrong.
That wasn’t the case with this bout which is one of the most outrageous non-stoppages in recent memory.
It’s obvious here referee didn’t do his job well, as cornerman jump the cage and break up a submission themselves. The fight was between Silmar “Sombra” Nunes and Caio “Paturi” Robson Silva under Brazil’s Capanema Fight Combat banner.

Initially, the fight looked normal like any other. Nunes applies an arm-in guillotine choke to his opponent Robson Silva’s neck that’s when all the mess broke loose. Nunes squeezed the choke from the bottom, and Silva went unconscious. After couple checks, referee refuse to stop the fight that’s how cornerman jump in to stop the Nunes.
Nunes made a brief statement about the situation on social media:
“If you don’t tap you’ll go to sleep,” Nunes wrote. “Another win, thank God, I was assaulted at the end of the fight, but everything went OK.”
