UFC legend Wanderlei Silva made his boxing debut on Saturday night. Needless to say, things did not go according to plan.
Squaring off against former two-division world champion Acelino Freitas in an exhibition bout at Spaten Fight Night 2 in Sao Paulo, ‘The Axe Murderer’ was disqualified in the fourth round after delivering a blatantly intentional headbutt to his opponent. The incident occured shortly after Silva was deducted one point for ignoring the referee’s instructions to separate during an exchange.
Moments later, Silva delivered the illegal blow, prompting the referee to deduct another point before disqualifying he former MMA star altogether.
That’s when things really got crazy.
Wanderlei Silva KO’d During Free-For-All
After the fight, both teams were in the ring when shoving began. Silva was struck with a blow from behind from what appeared to be a member of Freitas’ team. As the chaos continued, someone landed a sweeping right hand to Silva’s chin, sending the Hall of Famer crashing to the canvas unconscious.

Before strapping on the eight-ounce gloves on Saturday, Silva, 49, had not competed since 2018, when he was knocked out by Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson under the Bellator banner. As of this writing, the extent of Silva’s injuries is unknown.
