Volkan Oezdemir is coming off a loss to Daniel Cormier at UFC 220 on Jan 20th. Volkan failed to earn the 205-pound strap from Cormier after getting knocked out in the second round. Prior to this loss, Oezdemir had roared his way to the top of the division, defeating Ovince Saint Preux on short notice and Knockout both Misha Cirkunov and Jimi Manuwa.
Shogun Rua (25-10, 9-8 UFC) has three wins in a row, with like of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Corey Anderson and Gian Villante. It’s been more than seven years since the Brazilian slugger last held UFC belt, suffering numerous troubling defeats along the way.
