Surging UFC light heavyweight contender Volkan Oezdemir has been charged with “ aggravated battery- Cause Bodily Harm Or Disability” Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (via MMAjunkie)
Oezdemir is being held in Broward County jail, pending a bail hearing. No further details on incidence emerge yet.
Volkan hails from Switzerland; he’s been living in Florida as he trains at the talent-rich Combat Club facility in the city of Lantana.
He is expected to be the next foe for Daniel Cormier’s UFC light heavyweight title. The fighters are expected to collide at UFC 220 this January 20 in Boston. After his arresting news, this bout seems to be in trouble now.
His arresting record was updated to reflect he was being held on $10,000 bond, and later to reflect his release on bond was pending.
Oezdemir came to the UFC roster earlier this year and took a short-notice fight against Ovince Saint Preux (OSP) at UFC Fight Night 104 in Houston. Capturing a close decision win over “OSP.
