How could I talk about Vitor Belfort without mentioning Affliction II: Day of Reckoning when the dude nearly comatosed Matt Lindland live on PPV. Everyone in that arena (including all the heads that dropped $59.95 on what was the best card of 2009) just thought we witnessed our first unintentional execution. This wasn’t what we bargained for. It was like the future was dipped into that weird jar of semi-post apocalyptic The Running Man. I was expecting Arnold Govenator to run in the cage rocking one of those yellow spandex jumpsuits (which we’re still waiting to see). Damn. When the guy that knocked you out is praying over your unconscious body, you know your future isn’t looking that promising (not as promising as a future with hoverboards).
Last year, Wanderlei Silva somewhat called out Vitor Belfort on Twitter, with Belfort immediately responding via TATAME magazine. Now in an interview with Brazil’s R7.com (via Fighters Only), Vitor is still holding out that Wanderlei Silva will ‘be quiet’ and that he shouldn’t call him out if he can’t accept the fight.
“Be quiet, Wanderlei.”
“The facts are what matter. It was very unpleasant, the way he called me out, how he did it. An athlete of his level speaking that way… that was disrespectful. But his tongue turned back against him, that was bad for him,”
“He challenged me, talked all this foolishness about what would happen and when it was going to happen – then he said he wasn’t prepared!? So he shouldn’t have called me out, he should have stayed quiet. Thinking before speaking is important.”
Damn, please don’t tell Wanderlei Silva that Vitor Belfort has hepatitis A. The Twitter smack talk would reach a monumental level of awkwardness. [Source]
