Jiu-jitsu star Vinny Magalhaes is facing serious legal trouble after an arrest in Las Vegas this past Saturday. The 40-year-old fighter has been charged with three felony counts, including assault with a deadly weapon. According to court records, the incident occurred during a domestic dispute, where Magalhaes allegedly threatened three people with a weapon. No injuries were reported, and no shots were fired, but the situation has led to his current detention at Clark County Detention Center.
Magalhaes, known for his impressive jiu-jitsu career and MMA background, made a name for himself on “The Ultimate Fighter 8.” He made it to the finals of the light heavyweight tournament but ultimately lost to Ryan Bader. Despite his MMA achievements, including stints in the UFC, Titan FC, and PFL, this incident now puts his future in serious jeopardy.
The fighter has been scheduled for his initial court hearing on December 23. If convicted of all charges, Magalhaes could face up to 18 years in prison.
Magalhaes has had a notable career in both mixed martial arts and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He was inducted into the ADCC Hall of Fame in 2024 and is remembered for his success in the no-gi ADCC tournament. However, his recent legal issues have overshadowed his athletic accomplishments, with many now watching closely to see how the situation unfolds
