It’s sad to think on the modern landscape of MMA, and realize that a fighter like Cody McKenzie might never exist again. Just take a moment and really reflect on the how completely bat shit insane it is that Cody McKenzie fought in the UFC. And more than that, he dominated athletes with twice the natural talent. With a weird guillotine grip and the toughness you can only acquire from Alaskan crab fishing, “The AK Kid” is a once-in-a-generation type athlete.

Countless fighters looked at Cody McKenzie with a sneer and dismissed him before battle. Those men ended up unconscious on the canvas.

Perhaps no one in MMA more properly invokes the immortal words of Hunter S. Thompson. “There he goes. One of God’s own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”

Let’s take a moment and salute one of MMA’s greatest characters and the Cactus Jack of MMA, Cody McKenzie
