A Career Spanning Continents and Promotions
Dos Santos built one of the more extensive résumés in heavyweight MMA, competing professionally more than seventy times over the course of his career. He recorded 45 victories and shared the cage with numerous notable names across multiple international promotions.
Throughout his journey, the Brazilian heavyweight faced elite competition, including Josh Barnett, Junior dos Santos, Sergei Kharitonov, and Vitaly Minakov. He also earned wins against respected opponents such as Dion Staring, Antonio Mendes, Ildemar Alcantara, and Assuerio Silva, establishing himself as a durable and experienced presence in the sport.
His career took him across organizations in South America, Europe, Asia, and Russia, with appearances in promotions such as RIZIN, ACA, Fight Nights Global, and others.
UFC Signing That Never Materialized
In 2012, Dos Santos signed with the UFC and was scheduled to debut at UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro against Gabriel Gonzaga. That bout never took place after he tested positive for hepatitis B, preventing him from being medically cleared. He was later released by the organization after being unable to compete under North American commission regulations.
Despite years in MMA, Dos Santos remained active in combat sports. His most recent appearance came in April when he competed under the BKFC banner, where he scored a stunning first round knockout over former UFC heavyweight Aleksei Oleinik. The victory marked one of the biggest wins of his late career.
Following that performance, he was scheduled to face former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski in June, but ultimately withdrew from the matchup prior to the event.
Known for his size, toughness, and willingness to face anyone put in front of him, Geronimo dos Santos carved out a reputation as a true veteran of the sport. His longevity and global career made him a familiar figure to longtime MMA fans.
He is survived by loved ones and remembered by fighters and fans around the world who followed his journey across decades of competition.
