‘Not guilty’. This is the plea Cain Velasquez has entered for attempted murder and other gun-related charges coming from his arrest earlier this year
The former UFC Heavyweight Champion would make his plea on Friday in front of the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in San Jose, California. Velasquez faces ten charges, which include attempted murder, shooting at a motor vehicle or aircraft, assault with a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, willfully discharging a firearm from a vehicle and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony (h/t MMA Junkie).
These criminal counts stemmed from Velasquez allegedly shooting at his son’s accused molester Harry Goularte Jr. in a car chase. Velasquez would fire shots at the fleeing Goularte, but would ultimately hit his stepfather Paul Bender in the arm. Bender would survive the bullet and Velasquez would go behind bars.
Following his plea, Velasquez is slated for a pre-trial hearing on Sept. 26. Until then, it looks like the UFC star will remain behind bars as Velasquez has been denied bail three times already. Velasquez’s appeal of his denial of bail remains pending in appellate court.
In addition to the pre-trial hearing in September, Velasquez is scheduled to have a motion hearing on Aug. 29.
