Valentina Shevchenko Scores A Dominant Decision Win Over Liz Carmouche!
UFC Fight Night 156 is taking place tonight (Saturday, August 10, 2019) from inside Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The main event of the evening brings very interesting combat. The reigning defending 125-pound champion Valentina “The Bullet” Shevchenko squares off against dangerous BJJ black belt Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche in a championship title war. The two already fought at C3 Fights: Red River Rivalry, on September 30, 2010, where Carmouche scored a second-round doctor’s stoppage. Can Valentina avenge the loss?
The referee in charge of this contest is Keith Peterson. The war kicks off!
Round 1
Carmouche moves a lot at the beginning of the bout, she opened up with a few good low kicks. But Shevchenko counters with a good straight right fist stops her progress. Head kick Carmouche, missed, and Valentina responds with a nasty combination.
Carmouche moves away, and Taekwondo black belt Valentina misses with a spinning kick, good movement by Liz. Leg kick Valentina, but the two are very patient in this round. Carmouche eats big right hand, now fighters trade short leg kicks. 1-2 Valentina, who advances and lands a flurry of punches, but Carmouche fires back too. Few more strikes at the end of the round, I think 10-9 Shevchenko.
Round 2
Fighters are trading leg kicks early on. Big straight left for Valentina Shevchenko, and Liz looks stunned, but she survives. Fighters continue trading kicks.
Oh, Shevchenko secures the first takedown of the evening, great move by “The Bullet”!
1-2 leg kicks Valentina, and the same combo for the champion again. Both fighters are missing at the moment. Spinning back fist followed by a punch combo, nasty body kick. Valentina dominates this round.
Round 3
Carmouche stays away, moves around, goes for leg kicks. Shevchenko scored a leg kick, but she didn’t follow up with a combo. Carmouche responds with a leg kick.
The crowd becomes angry, and Valentina lands a kick to push Liz, this looks good. Big left hand Valentina!
Oh, Valentina drops her!!! What a great strike by Valentina Shevchenko!!!!
But no, she didn’t follow up on the ground! The two clinched together, and Shevchenko takes her down with a great body lock. Liz lands heel kicks to Valentina’s thigh and hip, while Valentina delivers short punches. The end of the round, Valentina won this one 10-9.
Round 4
The fourth round kicks off. Carmouche kicks again. 1-2 Valentina, and now a great Superman punch followed by a combo, she dominates!
Carmouche shoots in, but the takedown attempt is stuffed. Now Liz pulls guard, looks for the mission control. Shevchenko is doing everything she can to pass the guard, but Carmouche defends well.
The referee puts them back on their feet and another spinning backfist by Valentina. Shevchenko now goes for the opponent’s back, transitions to side control, and the frame ends. 10-9 Valentina.
Round 5
Fighters are trading nasty kicks again. Great right hand from Valentina, but Liz caught her kick and tried to shoot in, sprawled on. Shevchenko is in her guard, but no big strikes at the moment.
Shevchenko presses hard on top, and now she tries to pass the guard. Hammer-fists from Valentina, she is trying to utilize some ground and pound but Liz defends well. Oh, there were some powerful strikes off the top. The final bell sounds, this was a clean sweep for the champ. 10-9 Valentina.
Final Result: Valentina Shevchenko defeats Liz Carmouche (50-45 x 3)
