The New UFC Flyweight Champion Will Be Decided In The Match Between Valentina Shevchenko And Joanna Jedrzejczyk At UFC 231
It is official now! Joanna Jedrzejczyk will fight Valentina Shevchenko. We have the former UFC Strawweight champion against the former UFC Bantamweight title challenger. Their UFC Flyweight title fight will probably happen at the co-main event of UFC 231, on December 8, 2018, inside Scotiabank Arena, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) won UFC Strawweight title six times in a row. Yet, she doesn’t have a good score in the last three matches. She was defeated by Rose Namajunas at UFC 217 via a surprising left hook on November 4, 2017. The two same fighters faced at UFC 223 on April 7, 2018, but Thug Rose came up with another victory. This time, she won via unanimous decision. JJ finally rebounded back with a unanimous victory over Tecia Torres at UFC On Fox 30 on July 28, 2018.
Valentina Shevchenko (15-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has never won any title. Yet, this is the chance of her life. In the last three matches, she has a slightly better score. The Bullet defeated Julianna Pena at UFC On Fox 23 on January 28, 2017, via armbar. She was then defeated to Amanda Nunes via unanimous decision in a Bantamweight title fight on September 9, 2017, at UFC 215. In her last fight, The Bullet won Priscila Cachoeira via rear-naked choke at UFC Fight Night 125 on February 3, 2018.
Shevchenko was slated to fight UFC Inaugural Flyweight champion Nicco Montano at UFC 228 on September 8, 2018. Yet, Montano had to withdraw due to kidney issues and she was transported to the hospital. Their fight was canceled and Montano was later stripped of the title.
These two fighters have a rich Muay Thai history. They already fought three times. Valentina Shevchenko won all three showdowns. Valentina also recently stated she would like to fight “real professional” Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Her wish came true.
