Considering Australia was populated with UK criminals, it’s no surprise that they like a scrap just as much as the Brits. No UFC show has sold out faster than UFC 127 at the Acer Area in Sydney, when 18,000 Australians jammed the phone lines and bought every single available ticket. I can’t imagine anything scarier than 18,000 Australian fight fans if they all have the same gung-ho attitude that Brian Ebersole’s girlfriend had when she dramatically shaved off his chest hair on camera. This is the kind of thing that makes the UFC think that The Ultimate Fighter should be pitching Australia vs UK soon. The super-fast sell out I mean, I’m sure the chest shaving held no sway over the decision.
Australian newspaper The Sunday Telegraph have dubbed the proposed season ‘The Bashes’, a word play on the Australia/England cricket rivalry in which both countries compete for possibly the smallest trophy in any sporting event. While The Ultimate Fighter: Philippines was expected to be the next step for the reality show, could this be the start of what Dana White classed as his dream of having an international TUF Grand Prix?
Marshal Zelasnik spoke to the Australian Sunday Telegraph.
“Right now we have three Australian broadcasters interested and a number of blue chips sponsors willing to write cheques… I’d like to think that before the end of the year we could be into pre-production. The pieces are certainly coming together”
Start the speculation as to who the coaches could be… now.
