Sin City plays host to a heavyweight headliner.
That’s right, Tai ‘Bam Bam’ Tuivasa takes on Marcin Tybura in the main event of UFC Vegas 88. The bout is scheduled for five rounds from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Tuivasa seeks redemption after suffering the longest losing streak of his career, with defeats coming to top heavyweight contenders. The Australian looks to rebound in a big way, perhaps with a beer-filled shoe to celebrate his 31st birthday today.
Polish dynamo Tybura returns to action after tangling with interim champ Tom Aspinall at UFC London last July. Tybura was taken out by TKO then but the 38 year-old hopes to turn it around tonight against Australia’s Tuivasa.
Round 1:
Tybura throws strikes right away to begun the round. Tuivasa clips Tybura with shots inside the clinch. They break. Tuivasa lands a leg kick. Tybura returns with a kick of his own. Tybura marches forward at Tuivasa with strikes and attempts a takedown against the cage, which he secures. Tybura works from top position and then snatches the back of the Australian.
Tybura punishes Tuivasa with countless strikes from this dominant position. Tybura keeps hammering away at Tuivasa and then chases after a rear-naked choke. It’s locked in tight and Tuivasa refuses to tap. But as time goes on, Tuivasa isn’t able to escape and later taps to the submission.
Official result: Marcin Tybura defeats Tai Tuivasa via submission (rear-naked choke) in round 1 (4:08)
