The first act of Noche UFC is upon us.
UFC 306 is a fight night like no other, taking place at the Sphere, the first sporting event to do so and in stellar fashion, with Dana White revealing more than $20M spent on the milestone event. The UFC kicks off Mexican Independence Day weekend in the bantamweight division with 19 year-old hot shot prospect Raul Rosas Jr.
An American with Mexican roots, Rosas returns to Noche UFC where he was victorious last year with a TKO win over Terrence Mitchell. This time out, Rosas collides against China’s Aoriqileng, by far his most experienced opponent to date with 36 fights in total compared to Rosas’ 10.
Though, Rosas has overcome the experience disparity before, picking up nine wins, eight of those by way of finish.
“The Mongolian Murderer” began his MMA career much later than Rosas, turning pro at 22 and then making his UFC debut at 27. Aoriqileng is currently at a career crossroads with his UFC record 3-3 (1 NC), so we’ll see if it’ll be a winning or losing record when he takes on the young gun Rosas Jr.
Round 1:
Couple of kicks land for Rosas. Leg kick lands for Rosas. Body kick gets through for Aoriqileng. Rosas shoots for a takedown on Aoriqileng and gets it against the cage. Rosas punches to the body from top position. Rosas passes over to side control and then full mount. Rosas seizes the back, locking in the body triangle around the waist of Aoriqileng. Rosas controls Aoriqileng from this position for the rest of the round, ending with some ground and pound right before the bell.
Christopher De Santiago scores the round: 10-9 Rosas
Round 2:
Aoriqileng fires a few shots one minute in, pressing forward. Aoriqileng sprawls a quick takedown attempt from Rosas. Right hand lands for Rosas. Inside leg kick also lands for Rosas. Rosas swings with hooks that miss. Right hand connects for Aoriqileng. Another clubbing right hand for Aoriqileng.
Aoriqileng lands a shot to the body. The bantamweights trade big punches in the pocket. Takedown attempt from Rosas, which Aoriqileng defends. Rosas eats a punch and then a kick to the body.
Christopher De Santiago scores the round: 10-9 Aoriqileng
Round 3:
The bantamweights hug it out before getting right back to work on the feet. Aoriqileng and Rosas exchange kicks. Rosas rushes in for a takedown and is successful in doing so. Aoriqileng tries to return to the feet but is taken down once again with a sounding thud. Rosas grabs the back of Aoriqileng and drives knees to the grounded Aoriqileng.
Rosas establishes top control in Aoriqileng’s guard. Rosas lands a few shots here and there on the canvas. More ground and pound punches from Rosas. Aoriqileng and Rosas Jr. trade punches in this position in the final seconds of the fight.
Christopher De Santiago scores the round: 10-9 Rosas
Official result: Raul Rosas Jr. defeats Aoriqileng (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
