Sunday Morning Rumor Mill RR

Happy Super Bowl Sunday. There was was a time when the night before the Super Bowl was anchored by a very important UFC pay-per-view the night before. That time has long passed and we are now left with whatever UFC Belem was and the Sunday Morning Rumor Mill is here to hold you during this time of need.

In the midst of four UFC events in the span of four weeks, it was a weird week in MMA to say the least.

As always these are rumors that have been talked about behind closed doors between MMA higher ups, so take them as MMA rumors.

Eat a buffalo sauce drenched snack, shotgun your favorite beverage and read  your pre-Super Bowl Sunday Morning Rumor Mill.

  • After Fox Sports paid a king’s ransom for the TV rights to NFL Thursday night football package, rumors began to surface of how this would impact the UFC. Rumors point to UFC on Fox cars lack of promotion over the last six months plus may have been due to the network already planning for life without MMA. Both sides remain far apart, numbers wise, on a new TV deal.
  • In the days following Ronda Rousey’s expected WWE debut rumors are out for what the pro wrestling promotion had planned for her. Initial night of plans had Rousey feuding with Charlotte Flair on the road to WrestleMania. Reports now lead to Rousey participating in a tag team match, with her partner being Braun Strowman, Kurt Angle or The Rock.
  • Dovetailing of the recent return of the XFL, much like the WWE the UFC is now ramping up their push to roll out their Zuffa boxing. Also like their pro wrestling counterpart rumors are the UFC will need more than just their core business if they want to score the dollar amount in their next TV rights deal.
  • Originally targeted for the possible co-main event of UFC 226, the rumored super-fight between Mighty Mouse and TJ Dillashaw may now be moved to UFC 225 which badly needs a main event. Early talks are the Johnson vs. Dillashaw could also be pushed up to UFC 222 after the Max Holloway news surfaced over the weekend.
