UFC 225’s Yoel Romero Wants Showdown With Light Heavyweight Champ Daniel Cormier

Yoel Romero who is gearing up to challenge Robert Whittaker for the second time in the UFC 225 headliner for middleweight title bout which takes place at United Center in Chicago and airs on pay-per-view following prelims on UFC Fight Pass. The pair first met for the interim title at UFC 213, where Whittaker took a unanimous decision back in July 2017.

Back in February at UFC 221, Yoel Romero had a chance to win the gold strap against Luke Rockhold, but he failed to make weight and was ineligible to win the gold however he scores the knockout win.

If the “Soldier of God” comes out victorious at UFC 225, then he has the desire to move to light heavyweight and challenge Daniel Cormier.

“Why not?” Romero said in his media scrum during open workouts when asked if he would be interested in stepping up to face Cormier (via MMA Fighting). “That’s my job and a job for [UFC president] Dana [White], too. [Cormier and I] have a good relationship for a long time. It’s like in wrestling. I can wrestle with him, it’s no problem. I can wrestle with him and after that, I go eat lunch or something with him. Why not?”

With Cormier jumping up in weight to challenge Stipe Miocic at UFC 226 in July. Either he wins or loses, Cormier plans to retire from UFC competition next March on his 40th birthday. So let’s see if this happens before that.
