UFC 225: Yoel Romero Failed To Make Weight For Title Fight

UFC 225 is set to go down tomorrow night (Sat, June 9, 2018) from inside United Center in Chicago, IL.

The event’s main headliner features Robert Whittaker who will defend his Middleweight title against a man he defeated last year, Yoel Romero. Meanwhile, in the co-main event, Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington will clash for the interim Welterweight title.

UFC officials held its weigh-in today, with all the fighters made their weights, but Romero tipped the scale at 186 pounds on his first attempt for his championship rematch with Robert Whittaker and has been granted an additional two hours to make weight. His deadline is approximately 1:50 p.m. ET.

Romero failed to make weight in the second attempt came in at 185.2 pounds make him ineligible to win a championship this Saturday. It’s not known until now if the fight will proceed as it is or there will be some conditions by Whittaker’s team.

This isn’t the first time Romero missed weight. Romero also had issues making weight for his interim middleweight title fight against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 this past February. “Soldier of God” stepped in on short notice for an injured Whittaker. However, Romero failed to hit the 185-pound mark for that contest in Perth, Australia and was ineligible to win the title.
