Tyron Woodley Vs Kamaru Usman Slated For UFC 235 Co-Main Event!

It Looks Like Tyron Woodley Will Defend UFC Welterweight Title On March 2 Versus Kamaru Usman!

The UFC Welterweight title match between Tyron Woodley and Kamaru Usman is pretty much a done deal. According to Ariel Helwani from ESPN, the two will meet on March 2, 2019, at the co-main event of UFC 235.

Also, the main event of the evening should bring the UFC Light Heavyweight title match between Jon Jones and Anthony Smith, but this match hasn’t been inked yet.

“Tyron Woodley vs. Kamaru Usman is a done deal for UFC 235 on 3/2, sources say. If all goes according to plan the fight will serve as co-main for Jon Jones vs. Anthony Smith. However, unlike Woodley-Usman, Jones-Smith isn’t signed yet. Jones has to get his license on 1/29 first.”

In December 2018, Tyron Woodley asked from UFC to let him fight Colby Covington first. Oh, but both Kamaru and Tyron went back and forth on social media before their fight was booked. Take a look at this Twitter “argument” below!

Ariel Helwani explains the reasons Kamaru Usman got the next crack at “The Chosen One”. Helwani says “The Nigerian Nightmare” was given an advantage over “Chaos” because UFC was thrilled by his superb performance versus Rafael dos Anjos at the main event of TUF 28, and his strong will to fight anyone in January.

“In the end, while Colby Covington was ready to go for 235, UFC chose to go with Usman because his stock rose mightily in their eyes after the RDA win + his subsequent willingness to fight anyone on short notice in January despite being injured. Covington held out and it cost him.”

Kamaru Usman (14-1 MMA, 9-0 UFC) is on a hot streak, with 13 wins in a row. He is undefeated since May 24, 2013. If he wins, he’ll become the first African-born UFC champion.

Tyron Woodley (19-3-1 MMA, 9-2-1 UFC) didn’t lose since June 14, 2014. In his last match, he earned a submission win over Darren Till at the main event of UFC 228.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Kamaru Usman will dethrone Tyron Woodley and become the most successful African fighter in the history of UFC?
