Tyron Woodley Unloads On Colby Covington For His Latest Shakeup
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is not happy with the current situation of the division. Colby Covington is the one calling the shots over Woodley for quite some time now.
Covington is coming off scoring the UFC interim welterweight belt after defeating Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225 back in May. After this win, he made a case to fight for a title that against divisions official champ Woodley sometime this year.
Last week, the news reported that Covington was unfit to fight by September when the UFC was trying a title unification showdown with the undisputed champ Woodley. ‘Chaos’ wants to dictate his terms for this fight, claims Woodley has ducked him at least ‘three or four times’ in the past, now he will return to Octagon by the end of this year.
In the wake of this behavior, UFC was looking to strip Covington off the title and have Woodley defend his belt against Darren Till instead, which Till later confirmed via social media post. However, Woodley turned down his offer.
As per Woodley, UFC never offered him fight against either man. (via BloodyElbow)
“[THE UFC] NEVER EVEN CALLED ME ABOUT THE [COLBY COVINGTON] FIGHT. THAT’S THE FUNNY PART. [HE AND RAFAEL DOS ANJOS] FOUGHT JUNE 9TH, I NEVER GOT A CALL EVEN TO FIGHT HIM. I NEVER GOT A CALL.
I JUST SAID [TO HIM], ‘HEY YOU WON THE BOO-BOO BELT, NOW COME GET YOUR ASS WHOOPED’. NOW ALL OF THE SUDDEN… [COVINGTON] WAS SUPPOSED TO FIGHT ME AND THEN HE SAID I TALKED ALL THE SHIT NOW HOLD ON…I GOTTA ACTUALLY GET IN THERE WITH THIS DUDE AND FIGHT HIM. SO HE CALLED DANA [WHITE] AND SAID, ‘HEY, DANA UM…MY VAGINA’S SORE…AND UM…I DON’T THINK I CAN FIGHT TYRON WOODLEY.’
Woodley went to rip Covington for pulling out of the fight which was never offered to him and blasted Till to make a weight firsts before even considering to fight him.
SO NOW I GOT SOMEBODY (DARREN TILL) WHO HIT ME UP AT 2:00 AM ON TWITTER SAYING, ‘SIGN THE CONTRACT’. I HATE WHEN FIGHTERS DO THAT. I DON’T HAVE NO DAMN CONTRACT AND WHO ARE YOU? DIDN’T YOU JUST MISS WEIGHT?
IF YOU WANT TO FIGHT ME HAVE YOUR MANAGER SET IT UP, HAVE DANA WHITE SET IT UP AND THAT’S THE DEAL.”
Woodley has been sidelined for almost one year and is currently nursing a shoulder injury sustained in his title defense vs. Demian Maia at UFC 214. ‘The Chosen One’ clearly said if Till wants to fight he needs to have his manager to contact Dana white.
It will be interesting to see how things will shape up in the coming weeks.
