Two UFC Strawweights Blasts Mackenzie Dern’s Presence In UFC Rankings

UFC strawweight prospect Mackenzie Dern dropped Amanda Cooper with a powerful overhand right and submitted her via first round rear-naked choke at UFC 224 in Rio de Janeiro. But her impressive performance somehow overshadowed by scale failure missed weight by a whopping seven pounds for the 115-pound contest. She fined 30 percent of her purse as a result and was labeled a “disgrace” by her opponent, Cooper.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu made weight for her UFC debut, earns a grueling split-decision win over Ashley Yoder at UFC 222 in March, but she missed weight twice under the Legacy banner. Her past opponents Cooper and Yoder weren’t ranked when they lost to Brazilian grappler.

Earlier this week, UFC new rankings were announced, Mackenzie Dern entered the strawweight rankings at 15 despite failing a scale. That didn’t sit well with two strawweight contenders.

Angela Hill, who Mackenzie Dern replaced in the rankings was clearly upset about the situation. Former Invicta strawweight champion took to social media and voice her displeasure on being dropped from rankings.

Well this is a big fat slap in the face. I’ve fought top competition, beat #14 and the rankings finally grace me with #15 ranking, just to get bumped by a f**king flyweight,” posted Hill.

After winning her title in Invicta FC, Hill is 2-2 in her return stint in the UFC.

Another Eighth-ranked strawweight prospect Felice Herrig took to social media, lambasting the UFC for its flawed system and took a jab at Dern.
