Lightweight contenders cross paths on the main card of UFC 285.
The rising Jalin Turner enters the biggest fight of his career against the #7 ranked Mateusz Gamrot, who looks to bounce back into the win column himself.
Round 1:
Both fighters look to land strikes from a distance to start the fight. Gamrot first feints a takedown and later gets Turner down to the ground. Turner’s back is to the cage and he uses it to get back up to his feet. Gamrot presses Turner against the cage but Turner fires off strikes as they exit the clinch.
Gamrot goes for a takedown again and gets it. Gamrot tries to establish control but the taller Turner can’t be held down for long as he once again works his way back up.
Round 2:
Gamrot and Turner exchange strikes to the body and to the legs. Gamrot touches Turner with a right hand before going for a leg kick. Turner stuns Gamrot with a strike which leaves Gamrot on the run. The Polish fighter shoots for a takedown but Turner stuffs it. ‘The Tarantula’ is on the hunt for a finish.
Gamrot doesn’t let up as he takes down Turner in the middle of the Octagon. Gamrot gets Turner in a crucifix position and unloads strikes to the head of Turner for the remainder of the round.
Round 3:
The two fighters trade in the pocket before Gamrot rushes in for a takedown and gets it. Turner looks frustrated as his back is to the cage, but he is able to stand up finally. Gamrot tries for another takedown, which Turner defends well this time. Gamrot controls Turner in the clinch against the chain links. The referee separates them due to lack of activity.
Turner lands a crisp 1-2 and sprawls effectively when Gamrot shoots for a takedown. Seconds later, Gamrot tries for another takedown grabbing the leg of Turner. Turner attempts a flying knee with the leg that is not seized. Gamrot is relentless in his wrestling and it pays off as he gets Turner to the mat before the final bell.
