Tony Ferguson Talks His Strained Relationship With Dana White

Tony Ferguson is set to face Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone this weekend at, UFC 238. He has had quite a road back to the cage, battling physical and mental illness. He has dealt with leg injuries, and an apparent mental break.

Ferguson is back and better than ever, according to him. He seems motivated, and focused in all his interviews leading up to this bout. Now, “El Cucuy” is opening up about what is has been like getting back to action. He spoke on the strain with his relationship with UFC president Dana White, ahead of his return to the Octagon. “There was a lot of emotional damage. I mean, just more than anything else, coming from Dana’s mouth, saying that ‘Anybody that wears (sun)glasses inside deserves to have that happen to them.’ Oof, what the (expletive) is that? Dude, I was wearing prescription glasses. I wear them all the time, because obviously I have a couple different things with branding.”

Ferguson further explained how damaged his relationship with White is.

“That’s why our relationship is dissed – I don’t really like trying to get too close to him. He’s not my boss. I work for the company,” Ferguson continued. “Literally, I’m not trying to be his best friend. I don’t want to be close with anyone who’s wishy-washy. I’m not here for that. I’m here to represent myself, represent my country – United States. I am Mexican, so an American with Mexican parts. It’s dope. It’s powerful.”

Serious words, coming from Ferguson. However, it is easy to understand why. White has had plenty of harsh things to say about Ferguson. White even stripped him of his interim title when he was injured, doing UFC media.

No matter what, MiddleEasy is glad Tony Ferguson is back.
