Tony Ferguson Dreams About Georges St-Pierre “Money Fight”

Conor McGregor constantly gives comments about UFC 223 Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov fight. It is understandable since he has been holding the Lightweight belt since November 2016 without defending it. Tony Ferguson defends the UFC Lightweight Interim belt he won last October at UFC 216 versus Kevin Lee.

When it comes to Tony Ferguson, the income he receives from Khabib Nurmagomedov fight is probably excellent, no doubt about it. But there is one “money fight” he dreams off – the showdown against a former two-division champion, Georges St-Pierre. (Quote Via MMAFighting)

“I mean, GSP, literally if he wants a money fight, he’s an athlete,” Ferguson said Thursday. “We all have to pay our bills. We all have to pay our taxes. Straight up.”

How did Tony Ferguson even come to this idea? Georges St-Pierre was in year four of his five-plus-year second Welterweight title domination when Tony Ferguson appeared in the UFC at Ultimate Fighter Finale 13. Tony competed at 170-pound division at this tournament, and the most of his early fights were in the Welterweight division.

Tony Ferguson had always got GSP on his radar while making his way up. If Georges St-Pierre is in the market for the opponent, Ferguson would be more than happy to get this fight.

“That’s what I signed up for in the beginning,” Ferguson said. “I was 170 pounds; 155 was forced on me. I mean, that forced the move, ultimate reality, then that’s not the end result; 170 pounds, where I had 12 fights.”

However, Tony Ferguson has reached very far. He isn’t planning to allow himself to get too distracted from his current tasks as an Interim UFC Lightweight champion.

“When you’re just going for money fights, when this thing (the UFC title) starts losing luster … it becomes tarnished,” Ferguson said.

What do you think, is there a chance for the fight between Tony Ferguson and Georges St-Pierre? Will Ferguson be the first man to defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov?
