Tom Aspinall is recovering from an eye injury suffered at UFC 321 last October. While sidelined, the UFC has scheduled an interim heavyweight title fight between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane for UFC White House on June 14 in Washington. Aspinall has expressed that he understands the situation and supports the matchup.
Aspinall Speaks on Fighting the Winner
On his YouTube channel, Aspinall addressed the limited options in the heavyweight division and the reality of the UFC booking:
“I mean, who else is going to fight? The division’s on its ass,” Aspinall said. “There’s not many big fights to make, is there? So they’ve got to do what they’ve got to do.”
He also shared his plan to challenge the winner once he is fully recovered:
“Obviously, I want to fight the winner of that,” Aspinall said. “Just waiting now to get the green light, the all clear from the doctor to start training properly again. As soon as we can start training properly again, full contact in the gym, we will be getting a fight date booked to fight the winner. Just waiting for the clearance to be medically cleared, and then we go.
“As soon as the doctor clears me, we’ll let the UFC know and we’ll be looking to book a fight soon as possible.”

The Pereira vs Gane fight will determine the interim champion. Pereira brings powerful striking skills, while Gane is known for his technical mastery and strong all-around game. Aspinall plans to unify the division by facing the winner as soon as he receives medical clearance.
Until then, he remains patient during recovery but focused on returning to the octagon and taking on the division’s top contender.
