- Tom Aspinall provided an update on his much-awaited title fight with Jon Jones
- The interim heavyweight champ said he’s only fighting for the undisputed title
Tom Aspinall revealed that he is just waiting for the UFC to confirm a date for his heavyweight title fight with Jon Jones.
The fight is happening
Speaking to his official YouTube channel, Aspinall reassured his fans once again that he and “Bones” will soon meet inside the Octagon. The interim heavyweight champ insists that it’s Jones and his team that are causing the delay but as far as the official status it, Aspinall claimed that he is just waiting for a specific date.
“In all honesty, I’m sick of talking about it myself. Where we’re at right now is, I’ve have spoke to the UFC multiple occasions about this fight. I’m chasing up. I want the fight. I’ve been on record and said I want the fight. I’ve been on the phone with the UFC saying, ‘I want the fight, when’s it happening?’ I want the fight more than anyone. What is holding it up right now is his side. That’s the truth of it. The UFC really, really wants the fight to happen. They’ve told me that. As I’ve said, this is one of the biggest fights that could be made in MMA right now. Everybody knows that. It’s just does he want to put himself in a position where he’s comfortable financially to take the risk that he’s taking to fight me. And that is where we’re at,” Aspinall said.
“The UFC, they assure me that they’re desperately want to make the fight, every time I speak to them they say we are working as hard as we can for the fight. I’m literally just waiting for a date,” he added.
Tom is only fighting for the undisputed title
While Aspinall is ready to take on anybody put in front of him, he pointed out that this time, he is only fighting Jones for the undisputed title.
“One thing I want to be really clear on is that I am only fighting for the undisputed title, that’s my only discrepancy. I have absolutely never turned down in a fight a fight in my life never turned down an opponent and I’m not going to start now, what we need to be clear on though, is that I have done enough in the UFC to fight for the undisputed title. I am the best heavyweight in the world and I just want a chance to prove it,” Aspinall explained.
The UFC matchmakers, including Dana White appear to be in favor of making the Jones vs. Aspinall fight happen. However, there have been reports stating that the negotiations are taking longer than it’s supposed to because “Bones” is demanding a staggering $30 million payout for the undisputed heavyweight title bout.
