- Tom Aspinall is certain his UFC 304 win over Curtis Blaydes wasn’t an early stoppage
- The interim champ came up with a wild proposal to determine who the best heavyweight is
Tom Aspinall insists that his TKO win over Curtis Blaydes wasn’t an early stoppage and is proposing a special tournament between him, Alex Pereira, Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.
Only idiots say that
Speaking to reporters in his post-UFC 304 presser, Aspinall was quizzed to comment on the narrative that the fight was stopped a little too early. For the UFC interim heavyweight champ, only “idiots” think that way as Blaydes was clearly moments away from getting knocked out.
“Mate, what kind of idiot is saying that? Like, I dropped him with a one, two. He’s face down on the canvas, I’ve got 250 pounds on his back, and I’m landing seven, eight unanswered shots. Like, where’s he gonna go? Do you know what I mean? Where’s Curtis going to go after that? There’s only one place going to go, and it’s asleep,” Aspinall pointed out.

Tom designed a 4-man tournament
When asked if he would consider facing another top heavyweight outside “Bones,” Aspinall reiterated that he only wants Jones or perhaps, Miocic if he happens to become the champ again. Moreover, Aspinall has come up with a 4-man, one night tournament between him, Pereira, Jones and Miocic to finally determine who truly is the best heavyweight there is.
“I wanna fight Jon Jones or Stipe, let’s not discredit Stipe… Whoever wins that one, I’m fighting next,” Aspinall said. “Unless they both retire.”

“They’re saying that Stipe and Jon Jones are going to fight in MSG in November,” he explained. “Why don’t we do a tournament? We’ll do Jon, Stipe, me, Alex, and do a full-on tournament. Two fights in one night. And let’s find out who the real heavyweight champion of the world is.”

Jones will face Miocic in his return but there is still no specific date and location for the bout. The only thing confirmed as of now is that Aspinall will be the backup fighter for the heavyweight title fight.
