TJ Dillashaw Finally Reveals His Perspective On His Failed USADA Test

It has been nearly three months since TJ Dillashaw announced that he failed a USADA test. Finally, he has decided to speak up on the events leading up to that.

Dillashaw popped for banned substances, and was suspended by USADA for two years. This resulted in him relinquishing his belt. Finally, Dillashaw has opened up about what happened. He spoke with Chael Sonnen, to finally talk about the situation.

“There’s things I’ve wanted to say, that I didn’t, because I didn’t want to create excuses. Let’s start off. First and foremost I cheated, right. I don’t want to run around that. That’s why I even announced it when USADA was coming out. Like, I didn’t want to create any excuses. It’s like, look this is it. I did it.

I was so into doing something that has never been done before. Not the two champs, obviously I wanted that more than anything. I wanted to prove I’m the best in the world. It was to also drop that weight class. I was a lean 135-er. I wanted to drop the weight class, go to 125 and I played it off on how easy it was going to be.”

Dillashaw went on to explain that six weeks out from the fight, his body started shutting down. He did several tests, and discovered his hemocrit levels dropped to a near anemic level.

“I decided to take something I knew I wasn’t allowed to take. It’s call Procrit. It’s an anemia medicine, that would help me not only make weight, but be myself.”

Dillashaw concluded, by offering this message:

“I’m not mad I did it, because I don’t think could’ve taken the fight. I’m obviously going to own up that I cheated, I got caught. It’s a rough one, man. It’s hard not to hate yourself a little bit.”

It is nice to see TJ Dillashaw owning up to his actions, and not running form them. In two years, we will see just how tarnished his legacy is, in the eyes of the fans.
