Thor Silva Makes His Fighting Debut
The son of Wanderlei Silva plans to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father. Thor, son of Wanderlei, will be making his amateur debut in Muay Thai. The amateur bout is scheduled to take place on December 8th for an event called Money Belt. And while Thor is Wanderlei’s son, his approach to fighting doesn’t necessarily fall in line with being “The Axe Murderer.”
Wanderlei took to Instagram to share the news of his son’s training and upcoming fight news. The video shows Thor during a light sparring session. In the caption, Wanderlei displayed how proud he is of his son.
The translated caption reads, “My son is 16 years old and is preparing for his first fight. To change the track from 10 to 20 years, the young man is not a child and not an adult. He has to use these 10 years to learn something well, there is a young man who reaches 20 years old (and) does not know a language, a sport, does not know how to play an instrument. It is logical to fight because in these 10 years (he) can be(a) black belt and already working in the area! Bring(ing) your child to a gym near your home is the best you can do for him! Great week dear! You train, what is your degree, mark your master.”
Thor Speaks To The Media
Thor spoke to the media ahead of his Muay Thai fight. During the conversation (via MMA Fighting) Thor revealed that his fighting style won’t mimic his fathers. While there may be elements of Wand, Thor is his own fighter.
“I’m good at countering, but I also want to attack. I want to mix both styles,” Silva said. “If my opponent is attacking more, I’ll counter. But I also want to attack like my father does, to use him as inspiration when I’m fighting.” (via MMA Fighting)
Money Belt Promotions
Catch Thor’s bout with Money Belt on December 8th. The bout takes place in Curitiba, at the gymnasium of Tuiuti University of Paraná – Schaffer campus in Pilarzinho.
Thor Silva has not yet revealed his opponent. The promotion has yet to announce that information either. Stay tuned to Middle Easy as we find more information.
