Although it’s clear that Boston Salmon pulled off a knockout at this past weekend’s Tuff-N-Uff, it was actually called a TKO by the officials which is about as puzzling as Phil Davis’ win last night at UFC 163.
The reason we don’t see one-handed combo KOs in MMA (or even in boxing) is because it’s incredibly difficult to create enough torque to knockout your opponent after exerting most (if not all) of your energy with the initial strike. Not only that, but aside from a double jab, it’s relatively easy to lose your balance when going for a one-handed combo of which both strikes are significant. Somehow Boston Salmon pulled it off at Tuff-N-Uff, and it resulted in this stellar knockout. Props to @whiteymontana for the find.
