Who said there was an MMA drought in May? Not Polish promotion KSW and certainly not UK based BAMMA, both of which go down this afternoon. KSW 16 features the “World’s Strongest Man” Mariusz Pudzianowski who will pit his ridiculous strength against the might of James Thomson’s “gong and dash” strategy. It also features a fight that has gone under the radar of a lot of people: Mamed Khalidov vs Matt Lindland. “The Law” has lost 3 of his last 5 fights, with his last win coming exactly a year ago today. Another bout of note is Michał Materla vs James Zikic, who you may recognize from SRC 15. Zikic has fought a lot of top guys; he drew with Werdum and Horn, gave Gökhan Saki his only MMA loss and lost a decision to Belfort.
Another man who has beat James Zikic is also fighting tonight but this time over at BAMMA 6: John Phillips. He will take on Frank Trigg who is coming up from a short sojourn at welterweight to fight again at 185lbs. As well as featuring Ivan Salaverry/Matt Ewin, the card will be headlined by Tom “Kong“ Watson vs Murilo “Ninja” Rua for the BAMMA middle weight strap.
