The UFC Network, CM Punk plans and more in the Sunday Morning Rumor Mill

Sunday Morning Rumor Mill espn

Happy Memorial Day weekend. While the UFC and Bellator are across the pond in London, somehow, someway, Nick Diaz dominated the headlines this week in the never-ending story that is MMA. The Sunday Morning Rumor Mill is a lot like a Diaz brother.

The rise, fall and rebirth of Nickolas Robert Diaz all happened within a span of 24 hours. This was a very Nick Diaz thing to.  Wherever the legal world takes Diaz, rumors will hang back in his crew waiting to utter an encouraging “that’s what’s up“.

As always these are rumors that have been talked about behind closed doors between MMA higher ups, so take them as MMA rumors.

From the streets of Vegas to the fight scene in London, the Sunday Morning Rumor Mill is here for your next backyard cookout or cannonball into the pool.

  • The UFC is looking ahead to the future. In the same vein as the WWE, rumors are once again popping up that some kind “UFC Network” is back on the table being discussed. Rumors are the monthly streaming subscription service could take the place of Fight Pass and offer monthly UFC pay-per-views as the main selling point.
  • Maybe going hand and hand with the previous rumor, there are some internal concerns that UFC may get lost in the shuffle on ESPN. Not even a top five sport’s property on the network, there are current fears that the UFC may get buried by other weekend sports already on ESPN; especially in the Fall.
  • Huge if true but rumors are that a big reason the UFC’s deal with FOX fell apart was because FOX wanted exclusivity with UFC and not a split of the promotion across multiple channels.
  • The drum continues to bang for CM Punk getting bit by the pro wrestling bug again. Punk’s involvement in Sept. 1 “All In” indie wrestling super-show are still being talked about, even though he has yet to compete in his second UFC yet.
  • Despite his legal troubles this week, Nick Diaz was already spotted out and about in Las Vegas a mere hours after he was let out of jail. Rumor is Diaz’s current situation will have neither a positive or negative affect on if the UFC brings him back for another fight.
