Tatiana Suarez did not get an easy night at UFC 327. On April 11 in Miami, Suarez got clipped early by Loopy Godinez, had to steady herself in a hurry, then dragged the fight back into her world and finished it with a rear-naked choke at 2:29 of the second round. It was a sharp bounce-back performance on a card that had already produced plenty of noise during the UFC 327 weigh-in week in Miami.

Suarez is still trying to climb back into the strawweight title mix, and Godinez gave her a real test right away. Godinez came out throwing hard, created danger in the opening round, and forced Suarez to settle herself before she could start changing the fight. That all happened on a UFC 327 card that had already been noisy from Josh Hokit crashing media day to call out Jiri Prochazka to Dana White promising Saturday’s show would reveal more about the White House card.

Godinez had the cleaner start. She landed first, pressured Suarez, and made the fight uncomfortable before Suarez could start building anything. But once Suarez survived the early rush, the fight changed fast. She got to her wrestling, started controlling positions, and took away the kind of exchanges Godinez wanted.

By the second round, Suarez was back where she is most dangerous. She grounded Godinez again, improved position, took the back, and locked in the choke. Once she got there, the end came quickly.

Tatiana Suarez turned a bad start into a clean finish

Once Suarez settled, the difference in grappling took over the fight. She does not need much space to turn a scramble into control, and Godinez learned that after winning the early exchanges.

Suarez also used her post-fight moment to say she still wants another shot at the UFC strawweight title, and she dedicated the win to a loved one she recently lost to cancer.

For Godinez, this is a frustrating loss because the opening was there. She had Suarez under pressure early, but she could not keep the fight in that lane once Suarez got her hands on her. It still lands on a UFC 327 weekend that also saw the light heavyweight title picture change when Alex Pereira vacated his belt.
