Tai Tuivasa’s seven-fight skid already had the alarm bells screaming, and now Bam Bam is trying to stop the slide with a full-blown gym reset. The Australian heavyweight showed himself at American Top Team in South Florida ahead of his Sept. 19 fight with Robelis Despaigne at UFC 331, which is exactly the kind of move you make when every walk to the cage has started to feel like a job interview.
The image is simple, but the message is loud. Tuivasa is not just hiding out somewhere and hoping the next heavyweight banger magically fixes everything. He is putting himself in a room that has produced champions, bruisers, and enough hard rounds to make a man either sharpen up or get swallowed.
Tuivasa’s ATT arrival made it onto his own Instagram feed:
A Fresh Room Before A Dangerous UFC 331 Swing
This reset lands at a rough point in Tuivasa’s UFC run. His last victory came in February 2022, when he knocked out Derrick Lewis at UFC 271 and looked like the heavyweight party bus might run all the way into title traffic. Since then, the wheels have been flying off one by one, from the Tallison Teixeira loss at UFC 325 to the rough Perth return that pushed the skid even deeper.
Despaigne is not exactly a soft landing either. The Cuban finisher brings the kind of giant-man chaos where one clean shot can make the whole room go quiet. If Tuivasa wants to make the ATT move count, this is the kind of opponent who will grade the homework in real time.
That is what makes the gym switch interesting beyond the usual training-camp photo dump. Tuivasa has always had the chin, power, and crowd love. What he needs now is structure, fresh voices, and enough discipline to keep the fight from turning into another coin flip with four-ounce gloves. ATT can give him the tools, but Bam Bam still has to carry them into the cage without deciding that a phone-booth firefight is the only answer.
The stakes are pretty obvious. Tuivasa already had to answer for one brutal losing streak chapter, and the UFC heavyweight lane does not give out endless mulligans. A new team gives this fight a cleaner storyline than just another slump watch, but if Despaigne cracks him early, the reset talk goes out the window fast.
