‘Obrigado’ is the extent of my knowledge of the Brazilian culture. Call me ignorant, it’s cool. It’s not like I haven’t heard it before from my father every time I explain to him that MMA is vastly more complicated than boxing. I also know that most Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners eat a lot of ‘chicken and steak’. Jesus is also located in Brazil. Not sure why all these prisoners claim they found him in jail. Dude’s a giant statue on top of a hill with the wingspan of a prime Manute Bol. Besides being able to see Jesus, Brazilians will also be able to witness Fedor Emelianenko fight on Strikeforce this Saturday compliments of…HBO.
Showtime didn’t make the raw power move of merging with HBO while you were asleep (regardless of how cool that would be). In accordance to an international networking deal struck by M-1 Global as part of their co-promotion with Strikeforce, Fedor vs. Werdum will be broadcasted to Brazil on HBO Plus. Last November, HBO also broadcasted Strkeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers across the country of Brazil to an undisclosed number of subscribers (undisclosed because I can’t understand Portuguese). If M-1 Global’s contract with Striikeforce is anything like Fedor’s deal with Affliction, then M-1 Global will be able to retain all revenue from the sales and license of any international distribution of this event. That’s pretty gangster (in a good way, of course…if you’re M-1 Global).
